Yes, this is normal as with time the initial injury settles, and the swelling goes away and hence pain disappears. But your ACL is still damaged, and your knee is still moving abnormally which will lead to other structures damage and early arthritis.
This is what we call a fake knee. The knee feels okay and normal, but inside damage continues. Such patients typically come after 2-3 years of their injury with pain. By that time then the cartilage lining of the knee is damaged and success of surgery is reduced.
